  29.    Well, I can't help, but this is the same problem I had connecting to a 
  30. provider in the past.  I have a Cardinal 28.8  and the provider was using 
  31. Multitech's.  I also have had this occasionally connecting to USR modems in my 
  32. new providers lineup.   The garbage occurs whenever I get no protocol 
  33. establihsed.  (PROTOCOL  NONE).   Hope someone else can advise on this.
